Rev. Dr. Sonny Bridges

was born December 14th to the union of Deacon Julious and the late Mrs. Corrine Bridges in Monticello, Mississippi. He is the eighth of thirteen children. He is married to the former Janice Bryant and the Lord has blessed them with five children: daughters: Yashaka and Yalexis; sons: Terrance, Stevin and Jacquia; two daughter-in-laws: Christie and Rashida; seven grandchildren: Alexis Victoria, Jaylyn John, Braylyn Joshua, Peyton Isaiah, Zion Jacquia and Jabraton Jeremiah.

Rev. Bridges acknowledges his calling into the ministry in early 1977, while he was a member of the St John Baptist Church in Oceanside, California. He preached his first sermon on May 14, 1977 using for a Scripture reference, Matthew 5:38-42 and a theme  God is Calling Us To Go A Second Mile. After conclusion of this aspiring sermon, the late Rev. Harrison Fletcher immediately licensed him.

Rev. Bridges served in the following capacities: Youth Pastor, St John Baptist Church, Oceanside, California from May through December 1977; Associate Minister of the United Baptist Church in Okinawa, Japan from January 1978 until 1979 (there he was ordained January 14, 1979 under the pastorate of Rev. L. F. Stephenson); Associate Minister of the Union Baptist in Albany, Georgia; Youth Pastor of the New Testament Baptist Church Newton, Georgia; and Pastor of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Okinawa, Japan from 1984-1996

In October 1986, he was given orders to return to the United States to resume his duties for the last year where he later retired after 21 years at the rank of Gunnery Sergeant from the United States Marine Corps in Columbia, South Carolina. Upon his arrival in the states, Rev. Bridges and his family united with Temple of Zion Baptist Church until he accepted the position as Pastor of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He resigned from Pleasant Grove in September 1995 and finished his studies at Columbia International University.

Rev. Bridges enrolled into an Advanced Graduate Studies a special program created by Columbia International University for experienced Pastors. He successfully mastered the educational requirements without a previous-earned Bachelor s Degree. Rev. Bridges earned his Doctor of Theology and an Honoree Degree in Christian Education from the International School of Religion in Richmond, Virginia.

On April 20, 1996, Rev. Bridges accepted the position of Pastor of the Unity Missionary Baptist Church. Under his leadership there were 22 Associate Ministers. Rev. Bridges faithfully served Unity for 13 years. He resigned from Unity in September 2009 and accepted the position of Pastor at Bethlehem #1 Missionary Baptist Church Conway, South Carolina.

Rev. Bridges is a revivalist, he has preached extensively throughout the United States. Rev. Bridges has served in the following capacities: Treasurer of the Wateree Baptist Association Upper Division; Instructor of the Ministers Division Wateree Baptist Association; presently teaches in the South Carolina State Baptist Convention congress of Christian Education.

Rev. Bridges is currently an Educator at Granvy Educational Center where he specializes in Special Education. He is also a Mentor/Positive Role Model where he works with a variety of youths.

Rev. Bridges favorite Scripture is Revelations 22:12;  and behold, I come quickly and my reward is with me to give every man according as its work shall be.
